Italy’s Most Beautiful Lake, On Your Wall
Lake Garda is not just Italy’s largest lake. It is a landscape that has captivated artists, poets, and travellers for over two thousand years. The Romans built villas on its southern shores. D.H. Lawrence wrote here. Goethe crossed the lake by moonlight and never forgot it. And the first golden age of European travel poster design — those extraordinary lithographs produced between 1890 and 1940 to lure wealthy tourists southward — found in Lago di Garda one of its most enduring and beloved subjects.
Our collection of Lake Garda prints continues that tradition. These are not generic “beautiful Italian lake” images. Each design is rooted in a specific place — the Scaligero Castle at Sirmione, the lemon terraces above Limone, the windsurf sails at Riva del Garda, the medieval tower at Malcesine, the cypress-lined promenade at Bardolino. Specific. Personal. Worthy of the wall they hang on.
The collection works in three artistic registers. Vintage travel poster compositions in the Belle Époque tradition — bold typography, flat colour fields, the graphic clarity that made the original Lago di Garda poster one of the most collected formats in Italian print art. Watercolour and fine line illustrations that capture the soft shimmer of the lake at dusk. And contemporary bold graphic designs that celebrate the lake’s colours — that extraordinary turquoise blue, the burnt sienna of terracotta walls, the olive green of the hills above Gargnano — in a modern format that works in any interior.
Every Lake Garda print is available in three formats: unframed, framed in your choice of black, white, natural wood, or walnut, and gallery-wrapped canvas. All ship worldwide.

Sirmione — The Castle, the Peninsula & the Roman Shore
Sirmione is the most photographed, most painted, and most poster-worthy town on Lake Garda. It occupies the tip of a narrow peninsula that juts 4 kilometres into the southern lake, with water on three sides and the Scaligero Castle — a perfectly preserved 13th-century moated fortress with battlements rising directly from the lake — guarding the only entrance by land. From a distance, it looks like a stage set. Up close, it feels like time has simply stopped.
The Scaligero Castle subject is the cornerstone of the Sirmione print collection. The original Lake Garda vintage travel posters of the 1920s and 1930s returned to it again and again — and for good reason. The castle gives the composition something that most lakeside subjects lack: a strong architectural anchor against which the expanse of blue water and mountain horizon can play. Our Sirmione lago di garda poster compositions follow this logic. Bold, graphic, with the castle tower centred and the lake stretching to the horizon behind it.
Beyond the castle, the Roman ruins of the Grotte di Catullo — the largest Roman villa complex in northern Italy, sitting on the exposed northern headland of the peninsula — provide a second, very different subject: the ruined columns and archways open to the sky, with the lake visible through every gap. It is one of the most atmospheric archaeological sites in Italy and one that translates beautifully into the watercolour format of Lake Garda wall art.
Limone sul Garda — Lemon Terraces & Pastel Facades
Limone sul Garda sits on the western shore of the lake, tucked between the water and a cliff face so steep that until a lakeside road was blasted through the rock in the 1930s, the village was accessible only by boat. This isolation is part of what makes it so visually distinctive. The old town is compact, pastel-coloured, and entirely human in scale — a tangle of narrow lanes, lemon houses (limonaie), and waterfront terraces that face east into the morning sun as it rises over the mountains on the far shore.
The lemon houses are the defining Limone image. These structures — not farmhouses, but elaborate trellised stone buildings designed specifically to grow lemon trees in an Alpine climate — are unique to the western shore of Lake Garda and represent one of the most curious and beautiful examples of agricultural ingenuity in Italian history. They appear in our Lake Garda prints as both subject and as a visual motif: the tall stone columns, the wooden lintels, the lemons themselves in their distinctive Mediterranean yellow against the deep green of the leaves.
Our Limone lago di garda poster designs work primarily in the watercolour tradition — soft washes of terracotta, lemon yellow, and the particular blue-green of the lake in the shallows near the village. The colour palette of Limone is one of the warmest on the lake, and watercolour captures that warmth in a way that bolder graphic treatments cannot. These are Lake Garda prints for rooms that want Mediterranean warmth without excess.
Riva del Garda & Malcesine — Alpine Drama at the Lake’s Northern Edge
Riva del Garda sits at the very northern tip of the lake, where the mountains close in on three sides and the Dolomites begin. It has a different character from the southern towns — cooler, more Austrian in feeling (it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918), with a distinctive medieval tower, the Torre Apponale, rising above its main piazza. And the constant wind that funnels down the valley makes it the premier windsurfing and sailing destination in Europe, with brightly coloured sails filling the lake surface every afternoon.
As a Lake Garda print subject, Riva offers two quite distinct visual possibilities. The architectural subject — the Torre Apponale, the Rocca fortress on the waterfront, the Habsburg-era buildings of the Piazza III Novembre — suits the vintage travel poster treatment with its bold forms and clear silhouettes. The nautical subject — the windsurfers, the sails, the lake surface in its midday chop — is one of the most dynamic and contemporary Lake Garda poster compositions available, with the vivid primary colours of the sails against the turquoise water creating exactly the kind of graphic impact that makes large-format canvas prints work so powerfully.
On the eastern shore, Malcesine offers a third distinct visual register. Its Scaligero Castle — a separate branch of the same Scaligero family who built Sirmione’s fortress — sits on a rocky headland directly above the lake, with the Monte Baldo massif rising steeply behind it. Goethe sketched it during his Italian Journey of 1786. Our Malcesine Lake Garda prints capture it in fine line illustration: the castle, the olive groves, the lake, the mountain, in a spare composition that lets the landscape’s natural grandeur carry the artistic weight.
Three Ways to See Lake Garda
The artistic tradition of Lake Garda poster art spans over a century. Understanding the three main styles helps you choose the right print for your space.
Vintage Travel Poster. The original lago di garda poster tradition dates from the Belle Époque, when Italian railway companies and the early tourism industry commissioned bold lithographic posters to draw visitors to the lakes. These designs — flat colour fields, bold typography, the lake rendered in vivid turquoise and the mountains in purple-blue — are the most recognisable style in Lake Garda poster art. They suit statement walls, larger formats, and interiors that want genuine Italian visual character.
Watercolour and Fine Line. A softer, more intimate tradition. Watercolour Lake Garda prints capture the shimmer of the light on the water, the warmth of the terracotta facades, the particular quality of the lake’s colour in the late afternoon. Fine line illustrations reduce the lake’s landmarks to their essential graphic form — a single continuous line capturing a castle, a harbour, a cypress tree. These work beautifully in gallery walls and in smaller formats.
Contemporary Bold Graphic. The newest tradition. Bold flat-colour compositions that treat Lake Garda’s colours — the extraordinary blue of the deep water, the terracotta of the old town walls, the olive and pine green of the surrounding hills — as a pure design palette. Minimal, confident, designed to work with modern interiors that would find the vintage travel poster style too decorative.
Choosing Your Lake Garda Print Format
Every design in the Lake Garda collection is available in three formats. For the vintage travel poster designs, a natural wood frame echoes the warmth of the Italian palette most naturally. For fine line Lake Garda prints, black frames on white walls are the most graphic and contemporary choice. And for the bold graphic contemporary designs — particularly the Riva del Garda windsurfer and Sirmione castle panoramics — large-format canvas is the obvious choice.
